ISL 2022-23: Bengaluru FC Break Mumbai City FC’s Unbeaten Streak, Register 7th Win On The Trot

Date:

The fairytale run of Bengaluru FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 continues as they cruised to their 7th victory on the trot. Simon Grayson’s men have displayed incredible grit and determination and are one step away from sealing off a place in the playoffs.

After languishing in the 9th position in 2022, Bengaluru FC staged a remarkable turnaround. They have won 7 matches on the trot and have ended Mumbai City FC’s unbeaten run in ISL 2022-23. Even though Mumbai City FC have won the ISL League Shield award this season, they will not be able to end the league season with zero losses.

Sunil Chhetri was brought into the starting XI after being dropped for 6 matches. And the leader of the pack reposed the faith of the Head Coach. The talismanic skipper of India and Bengaluru FC scored a goal in the 57th minute to break the deadlock between the two sides.

Bengaluru FC’s set piece in the form of a corner materialized into a goal as Sunil Chhetri headed the ball to the back of the net. There were no signs of celebrations from India’s finest footballer as he knew that the job wasn’t done.

The home side doubled their lead after Javi Hernandez slotted the ball home. Aleksandar Jovanovic went past the opposition defenders and cut the ball straight to Hernandez.

Mumbai City FC showed shades of resilience after Mourtada Fall netted a goal in the 77th minute. Rowllin Borges took the corner for the Islanders and Rostyn Griffiths headed it to Fall who was near the goal. The Senegalese simply tapped the ball inside the goal to give Mumbai a chance to stage a comeback into the game.

The Blues held the lead tightly and the final score-line read 2-1.
