In the opening minutes of the game itself, Kule Mbombo missed out on a few golden opportunities to score, near the goal.
Cleiton Silva broke the deadlock between the two sides in the 10th minute of the game. Jerry Lalrinzuala whipped in a delightful cross that met the Brazilian maverick inside the box. He slotted the ball home with his head and brought about his 11th goal in the ongoing Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23.
In the 22nd minute of the game, the assist-king Naorem Mahesh Singh battled down the left wing and took a shot that had enough purchase on it to meet the back of the net. But NortEast United FC’s goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya collected the ball safely.
Within a span of 2 minutes, the away team went into the lead. NorthEast United FC scored two back-to-back goals and went into the driving seat of the game.
Parthib Gogoi and Jithin Subran scored two goals consecutively and silenced the home crowd, who turned out in decent numbers yesterday.
However, East Bengal FC is known for its never-say-die attitude. During the stoppage time of the first half, Jake Jervis produced an out-of-the-world goal. His bicycle kick goal is arguably the best goal in ISL 2022-23.
The half-time score read 2-2 and even the second half was an absolute crackerjack of a game.
After being brought down by a NorthEast United FC defender inside the box in the 61st minute, Cleiton Silva capitalized on the penalty and scored his 12th goal of ISL 2022-23 and his 2nd of the night.
