ISL 2022-23: Odisha FC Inch Closer Towards Playoff Spot; Rout NorthEast United FC 3-1

Date:

Odisha FC continued their impressive form as they defeated bottom-placed NorthEast United FC 3-1 in this Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 game. The Juggernauts now need just 1 more point to confirm an ISL playoff spot in this season.

Nanda Kumar, Victor Rodriguez and Diego Mauricio found their names on the goal scoring sheet for the visitors. On the other hand, Wilmar Jordan Gil scored the lone goal for NorthEast United FC.

Odisha FC broke the deadlock between the two sides at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati in the 36th minute when he fired a solid ball from outside the box. It went in like a tracer bullet and found the back of the net.

The half-time score read 1-0 in favor of the Kalinga Warriors. Victor Rodriguez then scored another goal for Odisha FC in the 65th minute of the match.

Saul Crespo’s low pass from the right flank reached substitute Victor Rodriguez. His clever and skillful touch helped him eclipse past Aaron Evans and then he took the shot to find the back of the net for the Highlanders.

In the 84th minute, Odisha FC received a penalty and the Diego Mauricio netted his 12th goal of this season. He is now the joint leading goal-scorer in ISL 2022-23 along with Cleiton Silva of East Bengal FC.

NorthEast United FC got a consolation goal in the dying minutes of the game through a penalty. Wilmar Jordan Gil made no mistake in slotting the ball home but it was all too late for the home side.

Odisha FC now are in the 5th position and need just a draw or a win in their last game Jamshedpur FC on 22nd February 2023.
