Premier League giants Manchester United have suffered a big blow in this season as star defender Luke Shaw has been ruled out for an indefinite period. Shaw suffered a muscle injury and will be sidelined for a long period.

An integral part in the defensive department of Manchester United, the left-back’s absence will be a big blow to Erik Ten Hag. Notably, Shaw had started in both the games in this season so far.

“Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has sustained an injury which will rule him out of forthcoming games. The muscle issue is still being assessed but the England left-back is expected to be out of action for a number of weeks. United are currently preparing for Saturday’s Premier League match against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford,” said Manchester United in a statement.

Tyrell Malacia has also been ruled out for a few matches as confirmed by Erik Ten Hag. His injury is unknown and his return date is also not fixed.

As Malacia isn’t available as well, Erik Ten Hag might go ahead with Diego Dalot in the left back position. Dalot, who is a 24-year-old Portuguese defender, had played 26 matches for Manchester United in the previous season.

His defensive awareness and tactical ability to prevent opposition strikers from executing step overs, makes him an asset.

Luke Shaw and Mason Mount will not be available for Manchester United’s next games till the game versus Arsenal on 3rd September 2023. Mason Mount will be missing this game because of a hamstring injury.

Shaw had played 31 matches for United in the Premier League 2022-23 and had scored 1 goal alongside 2 assists. He plays a pivotal role in the defensive line for United and his absence might result in the Red Devils, lacking in confidence.

Manchester United suffered a defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspurs

After an opening game win against Wolves, Manchester United suffered a 0-2 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspurs. The Spurs took the lead via a goal from Pape Matar Sarr and an unfortunate own goal from Lisandro Martinez in the 83rd minute, stopped United from having a positive result in this game.

Erik Ten Hag and co. will be hoping to stage a comeback in the next game versus Nottingham Forest. The match will be at Old Trafford in Manchester on 26th August 2023. It is slated to begin from 7:30 PM (IST).
