“We Paid For Mistakes Against England”: Senegal Coach Aliou Cisse After Senegal Exit From FIFA World Cup 2022

Date:

England produced a dominating performance against African side Sengal in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022. The Three Lions won the game 3-0 and advanced to the quarter-finals of the marquee event. After the game, Senegal’s coach Aliou Cisse reflected on the team’s loss.

Senegal had finished in the 2nd position in Group A in the FIFA World Cup 2022 and had won 2 out of their 3 games. However, the gulf between England and Senegal was visible in the Round of 16 game after Aliou Chisse’s side crashed out following a 0-3 drubbing.

“A match lasts 90 minutes and in the first half we played pretty well and created chances but, unfortunately, we didn’t score. We have worked for years to be the best in Africa, but we were facing one of the top five teams in the world and we saw the difference.” Cisse said.

“We were playing a very good England team and we saw that in their challenges, their physical strength. We weren’t as good as we should have been. Senegal’s strength before the World Cup was our defensive set-up,” said Cisse. “The fact we have let in a lot of goals at this tournament is difficult to explain. We are going to have to look at that. “You pay for any mistake you make at the World Cup because of the calibre of the teams,” Aliou Cisse added.

Aliou Cisse’s side are ranked 18th in the world

Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka had netted the goals for the England football team during their 3-0 thumping against Aliou Chisse’s side. Senegal is ranked 18th in the world’s football rankings and bettered their FIFA World Cup 2018 performance. The Teranga Lions had failed to make it to the knockout stages in Russia.

Japan and Croatia is presently playing in their Round of 16 game. At the half-time mark, the Asian team is 1-0 ahead in the match. Daizen Maeda netted the goal for the Japan football team.
