India won the 1st T20I against Australia by 11 runs. And, the game attracted a big controversy after India brought Yuzvendra Chahal as a concussion substitute for Ravindra Jadeja. The Aussie head coach looked a bit angry over that move from the opposition dugout. And, a video clip went viral on social media in which he looked quite angry in his gesture while talking to the match referee.
It all started when Ravindra Jadeja was batting in the first inning. In the penultimate over of the innings, the southpaw was hit with the ball on his head. Meanwhile, he was spotted in pain due to some issue in his hamstring.
Using Yuzvendra Chahal As Concussion Substitute In 1st T20I Attracts A Big Controversy
After the 1st innings, match referee David Boon informed the Aussie head coach that Yuzvendra Chahal will play as a concussion substitute for Ravindra Jadeja. And, Justin Langer got angry over the same. He knew the fact that the pitch is favorable for the spinners. And, getting the services of a leg-spinner like Yuzvendra Chahal will be a big threat for his side. Interestingly, the same happened in the game as the Indian spin-head grabbed three important wickets and was awarded Man of The Match.
As per the rules, the concussion substitute is a like for like replacement. And, the Indian team got four full overs of their premium spinner. Chahal took wickets of Aussie skipper Aaron Finch, Steve Smith, and Mathew Wade.
Meanwhile, BCCI also informed the fans about Chahal being used as a concussion substitute in the game. They shared a post from their official Twitter handle that read,” Ravindra Jadeja was hit on the helmet in the final over of the first innings of the first T20I. Yuzvendra Chahal will take the field in the 2nd innings as a concussion substitute. Jadeja is currently being assessed by the BCCI Medical Team.”
