Mitchell’s arrival hailed as a marquee move, comes on the heels of CSK parting ways with English all-rounder Ben Stokes, making him a pivotal addition to the squad for the upcoming season.
The IPL 2024 auction room witnessed an initial tug-of-war between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals as they vied for Mitchell’s signature.
However, the Chennai Super Kings entered the bidding war at Rs. 12 crore, turning the competition on its head and eventually emerging victorious with a winning bid of Rs. 14 crore.

The 32-year-old cricketer has proven his mettle in T20 Internationals, boasting an average of 24.86 and an impressive strike rate of 137.22.
His overall T20 statistics are equally commendable, with an average of 30.79 and a strike rate of 135.14, showcasing his prowess in the shortest format of the game.
Mitchell’s market value soared after a stellar outing in the ODI World Cup earlier this year, where he accumulated a remarkable 552 runs at an average of 69.00 and a strike rate of 111.06.
Teams were eager to secure his services, recognising the valuable contributions he brings to the table.
The Kiwi all-rounder had a brief stint with the Rajasthan Royals in 2022, having been bought for his base price of Rs. 75 lakh. His return to the IPL, this time with CSK, marks a significant chapter in his T20 journey.
