MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) put the entire world into amazement as they scripted history to lift their 5th Indian Premier League (IPL) title. Chennai got the better off Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans (GT) by 5 wickets and denied Gujarat the opportunity of defending their title.

Putting Gujarat to bat first, Chennai couldn’t control the run-flow. Led by Hardik Pandya, Gujarat titans posted a huge total of 214 runs on the board. Sai Sudarshan was the cynosure of all eyes as he mustered a scintillating knock of 96 runs in just 47 balls. The entire world showered in praises for him.

Chennai then had a reduced total of 171 runs in 15 overs as the Rain Gods decided to intervene. Led by Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja’ brilliance, Chennai chased it down in the last ball.

After the game, Hardik Pandya dealt with the loss quite maturely. He didn’t lose his cool on his players and even gave a warm hug to Mohit Sharma to console him.

Pandya spoke in a mature manner post the game. This simply highlights the growth the all-rounder has had as an individual over the past few years.

“I’m very happy for him (Dhoni). Destiny had this written for him,” Pandya said after the heart-breaking loss. “If I had to lose, I don’t mind losing to him. Good things happen to good people and he’s been one of the best people I know. God has been kind, God has been kind to me as well but today was his night,” said the Gujarat Titans skipper after the loss.

Ravindra Jadeja hit the winnings run for CSK

13 runs were needed off the final over and death-overs specialist, Mohit Sharma was entrusted with the responsibility of taking Chennai. He did a phenomenal job initially and conceded only 3 runs in 4 balls.

Chennai needed 10 runs in the last 2 balls and Ravindra Jadeja was on strike. He hit a six and a four and won the game for Chennai Super Kings. It was a special little cameo from the dashing all-rounder and he once proved to everyone as to why his weight is worth in gold.

Ravindra Jadeja dedicated the win to his skipper, MS Dhoni.

“I would like to dedicate this win to a special member of the CSK side, MS Dhoni. Feels amazing, winning my fifth title in front of my home crowd. I’m from Gujarat, and it’s a special feeling. This crowd has been amazing. They were waiting for rain to stop till late night, I’d like to say a big congratulations to the CSK fans who came to support us,” said Ravindra Jadeja after the game.
