After an outstanding Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season where they lifted the trophy, Gujarat Titans (GT) have done a tremendously good job in IPL 2023 too. They finished as the table-toppers after the league stage and notched up 10 wins in 14 games.

It was a copy paste performance from them as in IPL 2022, the Hardik Pandya led side had won 10 games out of their 14 games. Gujarat Titans have some incredibly talented players coupled with experienced players and this makes them a threat for the other remaining teams.

The likes of Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan and Mohammad Shami all form the core of Gujarat and they are extremely formidable unit. Skipper Hardik Pandya should be backing his boys to the hilt to grab their 2nd title on the trot.

In this article, we take a look at 3 reasons why Gujarat Titans might defend their title in IPL 2023:

1. Hardik Pandya’s fabulous captaincy

Skipper Hardik Pandya has been marshalling his troops extremely well. With an incredible win percentage, Hardik Pandya can well go down as one of the most successful captains in the IPL.

He uses his resources extremely well, is a team guy and understands the morale of the team really well. If Gujarat are to win IPL 2023, then Hardik Pandya’s role as a captain will be very important.

2. The domineering performances of Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill has been a class act in IPL 2023. The 23-year-old young prodigy recently smashed back-to-back centuries for GT and is a sheer match-winner. Gujarat Titans are extremely lucky to have such a gem of a cricketer in their ranks.

His presence will be a key factor if Gujarat are to defend their throne in this edition of the IPL. Shubman Gill has so far mustered 680 runs and has an extraordinary average of 56.67.

3. The famed bowling duo of Mohammad Shami and Rashid Khan

With two world-class bowlers in his team, skipper Hardik Pandya always has a peaceful night’s sleep. Both these bowlers are presently on 24 wickets each (before the GT vs CSK game) and are oozing with class and confidence.  They are with the Purple Cap too in IPL 2023.

While Shami leads the pace attack, Rashid Khan is a spin wizard and can spin a web and bamboozle the opposition batters. They will be instrumental in helping Gujarat defend their crown in the ongoing IPL 2023.
