Prithvi Shaw is having a tough time as an opener for the Delhi Capitals (DC) franchise in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. In both the 2 matches of DC, the young opener failed to fire on all cylinders and missed out on opportunities to score.
While he scored 12 in 9 balls against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Shaw managed to amass only 7 runs in 5 balls in the game against the Gujarat Titans (GT). Prithvi Shaw has invited the criticism of a lot of former cricketers for his lopsided performances.
In fact, Shaw has not been playing international cricket as well for his poor performances. In this article, we take a look at 3 reasons why Prithvi Shaw is failing at the top for Delhi Capitals:
1. Prithvi Shaw’s inability to counter-attack pacers
Playing pace bowling has always been a big issue for Prithvi Shaw. He has not been able to get the better off the pacers while playing. This has been a big reason why the young and flamboyant opener has not been able to deliver the goods in IPL.
He was dismissed by the sheer pace of Mark Wood in the first game and was then outfoxed by Mohammad Shami in the 2nd game.
2. His questionable technique
Prithvi Shaw has had a questionable technique while playing. He has a big gap between his bat and pad. This also makes him vulnerable to leg before wickets (LBW. Shaw’s foot movement is also not that good.
Shaw is also not able to tackle in-swing deliveries.
3. Shaw’s slam-bang style of play
Prithvi Shaw has always been an aggressive and explosive batter. He has often been labelled as the next “Virender Sehwag” as he plays fearless cricket like him. But this often makes him lose his wicket quickly.
Shaw is far from being an anchor type of a batter and is always playing aggressive and explosive cricket. If he can fix some changes to his batting style, then he will be a long-term stay in this cricketing circuit.
