The IPL 2023 is just around the corner and all set to start on March 31.
With only a few days left, BCCI is making this event more interesting for fans by introducing IPL 2023 new rules.
The BCCI has already confirmed that the new impact player rule will be implemented in the IPL 2023, and now, drawing inspiration from SA20, the IPL 2023 will also see captains selecting their starting XIs following the toss.
IPL 2023 captains will arrive with two distinct team squads before turning in their final XI after the toss.
The adjustment would allow franchises to select their best XIs dependent on whether they end up batting or bowling, with the appropriate impact player included, the IPL stated in an internal note describing the different modifications to playing conditions.
IPL 2023: What is the new rule?
ESPN Cricinfo reports that the BCCI has significantly altered the IPL 2023 Playing Conditions.
The IPL 2023 New Rules would permit captains to choose their teams once they are aware of the toss outcome.
This season, teams are likely to name 15 players, giving the captains the freedom to choose their impact player while the game is still in progress.
“Currently the captains have to exchange the teams before the toss.
This has been changed to exchange of teams immediately post the toss, to enable teams to choose the best XI depending on whether they are batting or bowling first.
It will also assist the teams to plan for the impact player,” said a note by the IPL as per ESPN Cricinfo.
Other IPL 2023 New Rules
- For each over that is not finished within the allotted time, there is an over-rate penalty of only four fielders outside the 30-yard circle.
- A dead ball and five penalty runs will result from the wicketkeeper moving unfairly.
- A fielder’s unfair movement will result in a dead ball and five penalty runs.
- After the IPL 2023 toss, the teams must reveal their starting lineup.
- Franchises will announce 15-player squads, with one of the four substitutes potentially having an impact.
