The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is entering into its 3rd week and we have already witnessed some high-voltage encounters. Several matches have gone right down to the wire and most of the teams have gotten accustomed to this edition of the tournament.

Since this tournament is a very lucrative one, several players have gone under the hammer for a huge amount. In the mini-auction on 19th December 2023, several foreign players and Indian players were purchased for whopping prices and had sent shockwaves across the cricketing fraternity.

As of 11th April 2024, Rajasthan Royals (RR) are at the top of the points table with 8 points under their belt. Delhi are with the wooden spoon currently and have 1 win in 5 games.

In this article, we take a look at the top 3 expensive buys at the auction who haven’t performed well yet:

Starc went wicketless in the first 2 matches of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and had conceded 100 runs. He picked up 2 wickets against Delhi Capitals (DC) but again went wicketless against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on 8th April 2024.

2. Harshal Patel

Punjab Kings had secured the services of bowling all-rounder Harshal Patel for a jaw-dropping amount of Rs. 11.75 crores at the mini-auction. He became the highest-sold Indian at the auction.

Patel hasn’t been able to excel as per his standards and has been quite expensive in this year’s IPL. He has bagged 6 wickets in 5 games and has an economy of 10.55 and an average of 35.17.

3. Alzarri Joseph

Alzarri Joseph

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) had broken the bank for acquiring Alzarri Joseph at the mini-auction. They paid him an amount of Rs. 11.5 crores and he hasn’t delivered as per the expectations entrusted on him.

Joseph has been smeared all across the park by the opposition batters and RCB had replaced him with Reece Topley after a few matches. The West Indian pacer has played 3 games so far and has an economy of 11.90 and has picked up only 1 wicket.
