DC vs GT 3 talking points

After their 67-run loss at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Delhi Capitals (DC) bounced back to winning ways with a narrow 4-run win against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Match 40 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

With this win, DC move to the 6th position in the points table of IPL 2024 and Gujarat are in the 7th position. Despite Rashid Khan’s heroic attempts in the final over of the game off Mukesh Kumar, DC kept their nerves and snatched a victory from the jaws of defeat against the runners-up of the previous edition of the IPL.

It was a high-scoring affair at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi and a total of 444 runs were scored across the 2 innings.

In this article, we take a look at the top 3 talking points of DC vs GT in Match 40 of IPL 2024:

1. Axar Patel and Rishabh Pant’s match-winning partnership

Axar Patel and Rishabh Pant were involved in a 113-run partnership at a time when DC were losing wickets. Patel was promoted to the number 3 position and it was only the third time in his IPL career that he received the promotion to the number 3 spot.

While Patel scored 66 runs in 43 balls, Pant scored 88* runs in just 43 deliveries. The DC captain’s knock was laced with 5 fours and 8 sixes and he deservedly bagged the player of the match for his whirlwind knock.

2. Mohit Sharma’s unwanted record

Mohit Sharma was at the receiving end of the onslaught of Rishabh Pant and co. as he conceded 73 runs in his 4-over spell. It was the most number of runs conceded in an innings in an IPL game by a bowler and he etched an unwanted record.

Sharma was taken to the cleaners by the home side’s batters and he conceded runs at a jaw-dropping economy rate of 18.2, highlighting the clear onslaught of the opposition team.

3. Rasikh Salam’s exceptional bowling

Brought in as an impact player in place of Prithvi Shaw, Rasikh Salam bagged 3 wickets in this DC vs GT game at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Salam took the wickets of Sai Sudarshan, Shah Rukh Khan and Sai Kishore and turned the game on its head.

Despite leaking runs in the game, Salam eventually had the last laugh as Delhi registered their 4th victory in IPL 2024.

With this victory, DC complete the double over Gujarat in this edition’s IPL, with their previous victory coming on 17th April 2024 in Match 32.
