IPL 2024: 3 Talking Points Of MI vs KKR (Match 51)

Date:

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) produced a special performance in Match 51 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) as they defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 24 runs at the Wankhede Stadium on 3rd April 2024.

The Knights won a game against Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium after 12 years and it needed a memorable performance. After a batting collapse early-on in the match, Venkatesh Iyer and Manish Pandey struck a fabulous partnership to take KKR to a respectable total.

With the white cherry, Mitchell Starc bounced back to form as he bagged 4 wickets and set the stage for a massive KKR win at the Wankhede Stadium.

In this article, we take a look at the top 3 talking points of MI vs KKR:

1. Manish Pandey’s superb performance

Manish Pandey was playing his first game of IPL 2024 and he delivered the goods with perfection. The situation demanded a cautious brand of cricket from the vastly experienced campaigner and he responded in the exact same manner.

Pandey scored 42 runs in 31 balls and made sure that KKR are rescued from a situation filled with tension.

2. Venkatesh Iyer and Manish Pandey’s important partnership

At a time when KKR was reeling at 57-5, Venkatesh Iyer and Manish Pandey took things in their own hands and played a mature brand of cricket. Venkatesh Iyer scored 70 runs in 52 deliveries and his knock was packed with 6 fours and 3 sixes.

On the other hand, Pandey played second-fiddle in the innings and scored 42 runs in 31 balls. The duo put up a partnership of 83 runs and steadied the ship for Kolkata Knight Riders.

3. Mitchell Starc swung back into form

After a few ordinary performances with the ball based on his standards, Mitchell Starc swung back into form with a match-winning performance in Match 51 of the ongoing IPL. Once he holed up Ishan Kishan inside the powerplay, it injected a lot of belief and confidence into the Australian speedster.

He bagged 4 wickets in the game and his other scalps included Tim David, Gerald Coetzee and Piyush Chawla as he guided KKR to a fantastic victory.

Mumbai Indians are virtually out of the playoffs scenario and need a miracle to qualify. On the other hand, Kolkata further bolstered their position at the top of the points table. Shreyas Iyer and co. are presently in the 2nd position in the IPL 2024 points table with 7 wins under their belt.
