IPL 2024: Can Virat Kohli Win His 2nd Orange Cap In This Competition?

Date:

Virat Kohli has been performing exceedingly well in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The Chase Master has been middling majority of the balls he is facing, is timing them well and is toying around with the field placements of the opposition team.

Even though Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are rooted to the bottom of the IPL 2024 points table, Virat Kohli has been a standout player. He is presently the leading run-getter of IPL 2024 with 500 runs in 10 matches and has been playing well in almost every single game.

Virat Kohli had bagged the Orange Cap (award for scoring most runs in an IPL season) in 2016 and it was the same year when RCB had finished as runners-up of the competition, having lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the finals of this competition.

This record of 973 runs in a single IPL season still remains intact and hasn’t been broken by any cricketer thus far. Virat Kohli etches history and shatters records with every game he plays and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he wins the Orange Cap in the year, 2024.

RCB have 4 matches remaining in IPL 2024

Unless a miracle happens and RCB qualifies for the playoffs, RCB will get to play more than 4 matches. But for now, they have 4 matches remaining in the league-stage of IPL and they will be looking to win all of those in order for them to have a chance at staking a claim for a playoff berth.

As Kohli opens the batting, he always has the opportunity of facing the maximum number of deliveries. Therefore, he can consolidate on his position at the top of the list of batters in the Orange Cap list.

But he will be facing stiff competition from the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sai Sudarshan, Rishabh Pant and Phil Salt, who have 447, 418, 398 and 392 runs respectively in the ongoing IPL 2024.

Phil Salt will not be playing the playoffs for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as he has to head back home for international duty for England. So there goes a competition, out of the picture, for the talismanic former captain of RCB.

Virat Kohli has already smashed a century in the ongoing IPL against Rajasthan Royals (RR) albeit in a losing cause.

He is presently having an outstanding average of 71.43 and has a strike-rate close to 150, defining his class batting and excellent composure.
