Former Indian Premier League (IPL) batter and superstar Robin Uthappa has launched a scathing attack on the Delhi Capitals (DC) franchise for not backing youngsters in their team in the high-voltage IPL.

Robin Uthappa, who was part of the title-winning side of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2024, mentioned about how DC haven’t been backing Indian players at all.

“Delhi Capitals have never been a team to back its Indian players,” said Robin Uthappa on JioCinema.

“Why don’t you back the Indian players you have picked? I don’t understand why a franchise like DC doesn’t back Indian players. That’s my problem with DC, they never try out their Indian lads,” said the former Indian wicket-keeper batter.

Delhi Capitals have perennially been underachievers and underperformers in the IPL. They haven’t won a single IPL title yet and their best performance till date is their runners-up position in IPL 2020, when they lost the finals at the hands of Mumbai Indians (MI).

Delhi Capitals lost their opening game of IPL 2024

Rishabh Pant and co. endured a 4-wicket loss at the hands of Shikhar Dhawan’s Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Match 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL). It was a comeback for Rishabh Pant after he was out of competition cricketing action for nearly 14 months because of a horrific and gruesome car accident he had gone through on 30th December 2022.

Batting first, Delhi Capitals managed to score 174 runs in 20 overs, all thanks to Abhishek Porel’s blitzkrieg of an innings towards the fag end of the 1st innings. The Bengal player smashed a power-packed knock of 32* runs in just 10 balls and smashed 25 runs off the final over from Harshal Patel.

Robin Uthappa once again questioned the Delhi Capitals franchise on why Porel wasn’t sent up the order.

“Looking at Porel’s technique, I think he can be a huge success at the top order. But how will you know if you don’t try him out? Why not bat him at No.3 or 4? He came in as an Impact Player at No.9 and almost saved the franchise,” said Robin Uthappa on JioCinema.

Robin Uthappa has played 46 ODIs and 13 T20Is for India and has amassed 934 and 249 runs respectively.
