Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), one of the most popular sides in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), are in search of their maiden IPL title. Having come so close on several occasions, RCB haven’t been able to cross the finishing line.
Under a new leadership in IPL 2025, RCB had gotten off on a positive note. Rajat Patidar and co. registered 2 successive wins and their confidence levels were sky-high. But they were brought down on their haunches in their own backyard against Gujarat Titans (GT).
RCB’s juggernaut came to a screeching halt as Gujarat defeated Virat Kohli and co. by 8 wickets on 2nd April 2025. While all hell hasn’t broken loose, RCB would be looking to arrest their losing streak and maintain their position at the top half of the IPL 2025 points table.
In this article, we take a look at 3 ways RCB can stage a comeback in the ongoing IPL 2025:
1. RCB shouldn’t overtly depend on Virat Kohli
With 8101 runs under his belt, Virat Kohli is the King of the IPL. He is the leading run-scorer in this competition and it goes without saying that RCB hinge around his performances. But for the franchise to go deeper into the tournament, all the batters need to step up and take ownership of their game.
They should not be overtly dependent on Virat Kohli as there might be days where he doesn’t look in his element. Like in the game versus GT, the entire top-order of RCB were skittled out by Mohammed Siraj and his bowling troops.
2. Good usage of Krunal Pandya
Krunal Pandya is one of the most underrated bowlers in the history of the IPL. Pandya can not only pepper with wickets but can also bowl tramline deliveries and restrict the run-rate of the opposition.
Pandya should possibly get a couple of overs in the Powerplay to prevent the excessive run-scoring of the opposition batters. In the game versus GT, Krunal Pandya was brought on to bowl in the 10th over, when the match was already bossed around by Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan.
3. Impact Players need to deliver
In the first 3 games, RCB’s Impact Players haven’t been able to deliver the goods with the bat or with the ball. While Devdutt Padikkal was dismissed by 10 runs in the game versus Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Suyash Sharma and Rasikh Salam, who were the Impact Players in the next 2 games, went wicketless.
With the IPL offering the teams some leeway with the Impact Player Rule, RCB should carefully analyse the situation and bring in some quality and experienced players.
