The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced the resumption of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, with the tournament set to restart on May 17 and the final now scheduled for June 3.
This decision follows a week-long suspension due to heightened tensions and hostilities between India and Pakistan, which saw the league abruptly halted and left the fate of the season in doubt.
Background: Suspension and Ceasefire
The IPL was suspended on May 8 after a match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was called off midway in Dharamsala, following cross-border escalations and security concerns.
The situation stabilized after India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire on May 10, paving the way for the BCCI to consult with government and security agencies to safely resume the league.

Format and Logistics
The revised schedule of IPL 2025 will not follow the traditional home-away format. Instead, matches are concentrated in the six selected cities to ensure logistical ease and security.
There will be two double-headers, both on Sundays, to fit the compressed timeline.
Security and Stakeholder Coordination
The BCCI emphasized that the decision to resume was made after extensive consultations with government and security agencies, ensuring the safety of players, staff, and fans.
Overseas players and franchise staff, who had expressed concerns during the suspension, are now being instructed to rejoin their teams as normalcy returns.
