Following the escalation between the two neighbouring nations – India and Pakistan – along the Line Of Control (LoC), the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 was temporarily suspended for 7 days – starting from 9th May 2025.
At the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, Match Number 58 between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC), was abruptly suspended due to a “significant technical failure”. Everyone present at the stadium was immediately evacuated and the next day, the league announced the postponement of IPL 2025.
Former legendary Indian captain Sourav Ganguly supported BCCI’s decision to halt the league for a week. He also mentioned that Pakistan will not be able to withstand the pressure for a period of time.
“There is a war-like situation in the country, and the BCCI had to do this as there are so many Indian and foreign players. Let’s hope the IPL restarts soon, as an important stage of the tournament is around the corner. BCCI had to do this, especially Dharamshala, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Jaipur,” said Sourav Ganguly to news agency ANI.
“It is necessary to do this according to the situation. With time, it will get better and matches will also be played. BCCI will complete the IPL, and this situation will end very soon as Pakistan will not be able to handle the pressure for a long time,” added the former BCCI President.
During a separate interaction with India Today, Sourav Ganguly clarified that the current stoppage isn’t comparable to the one during the Covid-19 era.
When asked about the steps taken to ensure tournaments proceed without disruption, he said, “A situation like Covid just cannot happen again. Matches were played during Covid, and the instructions given by the Indian government, BCCI worked according to that,” said Sourav Ganguly.
3 teams have been eliminated from the IPL 2025 Playoff Race
Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) are out of the IPL 2025 Playoffs Hunt. These teams haven’t been able to match up to the prowess of the other teams and have crashed out of the tournament.
Gujarat Titans (GT), led by their young and charismatic captain Shubman Gill, are ruling the roost in IPL 2025. They are right at the top of the points table and have notched up 8 wins in 11 games so far.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are in the 2nd position and have registered 8 wins in 11 games, as well. They have an inferior run-rate as compared to Gujarat and hence are in the 2nd position.
