Shane Watson finally pulled down curtains from his professional cricket career. On Tuesday, he announced his retirement from cricket. The former Aussie player is no less than a gem of cricket and rated as one of the best all-rounders in the history of cricket.

Watson bid adieu to international cricket back in 2016. Now, he has signed out from cricket. The 39-year-old was part of Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2020. MS Dhoni-led CSK didn’t perform as per the expectations of the fans and for the first time in the history of the Indian Premier League, they failed to qualify for the playoffs. The fans criticized senior players in the side for not stepping up with good performances and Shane Watson was one of the players in the side, who performed poorly in the 13th edition of IPL. CSK opener scored only 299 runs in 11 appearances at a strike rate of 121.05.

Watson holds several accolades to his name in international cricket. In his illustrious career, the 39-year-old scored more than 10,950 international runs. He was also part of the Australian side that lifted the 2007 and 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup.

After the announcement of retirement, Shane Watson took to his official Instagram handle and shared a series of pictures showing his journey from being a cute child to one of the biggest names in international cricket. He also gave a captain to his post that read, “As one incredible chapter closes, another very exciting one opens. I am so incredibly grateful for all the people from around the world who supported me throughout all of the ups and downs that living your dream presents. Here are a few of the very special memories that I will cherish forever. The next exciting chapter awaits….”

Now, Watson will not be spotted donning a CSK jersey in the IPL from the very next season.
