South Africa Test skipper Dean Elgar said that the players, who have skipped the series against Bangladesh, might not get picked in the national side going forward. There were several big names that were not part of South Africa squad with the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Aiden Markram, Rassie van der Dussen and Marco Jansen. Still, Proteas managed a thumping victory by 3-2.
Dean Elgar led side did convincingly well against the Tigers. They lost the series opener by 38 runs before making a strong comeback by 7 wickets. The Bangladesh side took a lead in the 3rd ODI by winning it by 9 wickets.
Dean Elgar drops Bombshell
The hosts didn’t hold back as they managed back-to-back two victories and got their hands on the five-match ODI series.
Post-winning the series, Dean Elgar said that it always feels good to play across all the formats for the side. He added that the side has brilliantly improved in the past year. As per him, the current players on the national side know what cricket as a sport is all about and they will be able to take the big responsibility on their shoulders.
“If you’re playing good cricket and the results are going your way, it’s always going to ease the burden of captaincy. The last year has been extremely testing off the field, but I have an amazing core of players around me who understand me as a character and respect me as a player and a person. They understand the kind of cricket I want to play. Most of the senior guys have bought into it. We’re in a very special place, which makes me feel a lot happier about what I’m doing,” Elgar said.
Dean Elgar dropped a bombshell through one of his statements that said players, who opted for the Indian Premier League ahead of the South Africa series against Bangladesh might not get selected going ahead.
“I don’t know if those guys are going to be selected again, that’s out of my hands,” Elgar said in a press conference on Monday.
