“Umpire should have been Man of The Match,” Virender Sehwag fumes as umpiring blunder costs KXIP their match

On Sunday evening, a nail-biting encounter was played between Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Capitals. The match went to a tie-breaking super-over that was easily won by Shreyas Iyer and Co. Both the teams gave their best on the field. But, it was umpiring woes that cost the game for KXIP. Afterward conclusion of the game, Virender Sehwag took to social media and reacted that it was umpiring blunder costs KXIP their match against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020.

DC scored 157 runs for a loss of 8 wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Marcus Stoinis scored 52 runs off 21 balls studded with three sixes and seven boundaries. Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant also contributed well with the bat. The former scored 39 runs and the latter managed 31 runs. From KXIP, Mohammed Shami emerged as the best bowler, who registered brilliant bowling figures of 3-15. Sheldon Cottrell took two wickets and debutant Ravi Bishnoi impressed everyone with his skillful spin bowling and he dismissed dangerous-looking Pant.

Virender Sehwag not impressed with umpiring

The drama started towards the end of Kings XI Punjab’s inning. Mayank Agarwal looked in full flow and he was smashing the bowlers all across the park. He played a well-calculated knock of 89 runs off 60 balls. It was KXIP on the driving seat in the final two overs of the game. But, Stoinis brilliance took the game away from Kings’ jaw. And, the on-field umpires also played an important role behind DC’s victory.

Actually in the final over. Chris Jordan grounded his bat completely grounded his bat withing the line while taking a double. But, the on-field umpire controversially denied that run. And, in the end, that 1-run became the margin between the win and loss for KXIP.

The match went into a super-over that was easily won by Delhi Capitals courtesy to Kagiso Rabada’s brilliant bowling. He dismissed KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran on back to back deliveries in the tie-breaker and DC got a target of 3-runs to chase. And, pair of Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant chased it with ease.

After the game, a clip went viral on social media. In that, Chris Jordan completed a clean run that was denied by the on-field umpire. Later on, Virender Sehwag took a cheeky dig on the umpiring. He took to his official Twitter handle and wrote,” “I don’t agree with the man of the match choice. The umpire who gave this short run should have been man of the match. Short Run nahin tha.
