The gameplay of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in both Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and 2025 has been to go hammer and tongs at the bowlers from the word go. SRH have been putting up totals close to 300 and have redefined the way T20 cricket is played.

After having scored 286 runs in the 1st innings in their opening game against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Hyderabad have slipped and faltered in the next 2 innings, purely based on the standards set by them.

In their game versus Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on 27th March 2025, Pat Cummins and co. posted 190 runs and it was easily chased down by Rishabh Pant and co. Most recently versus Delhi Capitals (DC) on 30th March 2025, Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to put up only 163 runs in the 1st innings.

The Head Coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Daniel Vettori, was quizzed about whether Sunrisers Hyderabad will change their batting style following 2 failures and this is what he said.

“There’s no conversation around that [tempering down]. We definitely want to play an aggressive brand. If you look at our top three, that’s how they play. They normally set the tone for the rest of us. Abhishek was unlucky tonight, Ishan and Travis, on a different day, may have hit those balls for six. We understand that when we play this way, there may be failures, but hopefully, we can come to the party and perform more often than not,” said Daniel Vettori.

Daniel Vettori pointed out that he doesn’t want his team to lose back-to-back games and has said that his team has “got to perform”.

“If you look at the course of the 18 IPL seasons, there have been very few teams that haven’t lost two games in a row, particularly early in the season when teams are learning their combinations, especially in the first year after a big auction. We don’t want to be in this position, like any team, but we understand that every time we play, we come up against a very good team—well-planned teams with highly talented players. There’s no reason why we can’t just turn up and win. We’ve got to perform—that’s the challenge for us after a very good first performance—and continue in the style we like. How we challenge ourselves to do it consistently is important,” added Vettori.

SRH next lock horns with KKR on 3rd April 2025

Sunrisers Hyderabad next cross swords with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on 3rd April 2025 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. It will be a repeat of the finals of IPL 2024, where Shreyas Iyer’s KKR side defeated SRH to lift the title.
