Kagiso Rabada leaves IPL 2025

In a significant development, Kagiso Rabada, the star fast bowler of Gujarat Titans (GT), has left the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mid-season to return to South Africa due to personal reasons.

This decision comes after Rabada played just two matches for GT in the ongoing season.

Background

Rabada, one of the most skilled fast bowlers in the world, was a key acquisition for Gujarat Titans in the previous mega auction, secured for a substantial ₹10.75 crore.

He featured in GT’s first two matches of IPL 2025, picking up one wicket each against Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians.

However, he was absent from GT’s third match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 2, 2025, with Arshad Khan replacing him in the lineup.

Reason for Departure

Gujarat Titans issued a statement confirming Rabada’s departure, stating that he has returned to South Africa to address an “important personal matter.”

The team did not provide any details on whether Rabada will return to the competition later in the season.

Impact on Gujarat Titans

Rabada’s absence is a significant blow to GT’s bowling lineup, which heavily relies on his pace and experience.

However, GT still boasts a strong pace attack with players like Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Gerald Coetzee.

In Rabada’s absence, Arshad Khan impressed by dismissing Virat Kohli early in the match against RCB, helping GT secure an eight-wicket victory.

Current Team Position

At the time of Rabada’s departure, Gujarat Titans were positioned fourth in the IPL 2025 points table with two wins from their first three matches.

They are set to face Sunrisers Hyderabad in their next match on April 6, 2025.

Career Highlights

Kagiso Rabada is a seasoned international player with 566 wickets in 241 matches across all formats for South Africa.

In the IPL, he has claimed 119 wickets in 82 matches at an average of 22.29 and an economy rate of 8.53.

Future Implications

While Rabada’s return to South Africa is due to personal reasons, his absence could impact GT’s strategy and performance in the remainder of the season.

The team will need to rely on their existing bowling resources to maintain their competitive edge in the league.
