Why KKR broke the Bank for Pat Cummins

It’s no secret anymore that Pat Cummins, the fast bowling sensation of Australia is the biggest buy at IPL auction, which was held on 19th December in Kolkata.

Pat Cummins was picked by two-times Champion, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at an astronomical amount of Rs.15.5 crore.

During one of the breaks at the IPL auction, the CEO of KKR, Venky Mysore, got in touch with media and answered many questions. He answered on the strategy of KKR and the franchise’s decision to break the bank to avail the services of Pat Cummins.

What’s the background?

Pat Cummins rose from the ranks and emerged as the most expensive foreign player in the history of IPL auction when KKR submitted a bid of Rs.15.5 crore to get him. Delhi Capitals (DC) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were interested in signing him, and the bid went up to Rs.10 crores, and that’s when KKR joined late and still got him.

On being asked the reason to spend so much on Cummins, Mysore told the Press that they were interested in Cummins from the start, but wanted to see how far the thing goes. However, once the bid reached Rs.10 crore, they had to enter the scene as they were determined to get him, and it is what increased the price.
