It will be the contest between the two blue teams of the IPL 2021 season. Today MI – Mumbai Indians will take on the RR – Rajasthan Royals in match number 24th of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League. Both the teams are desperate for a win and to regain the momentum in the tournament.

Mumbai Indians, who lost heavily against Punjab Kings, will look to bounce back in the match against the Double R’s. Rajasthan Royals will want to sneak an upset against the defending champions and continue their winning form in this match.

The Defending Champs MI are placed fourth in the points table. But their batting failures have been creating problems for them. Their loss against Punjab Kings is a wake call for Rohit, De Kock, Pollard and Pandya brothers. Mumbai will want them to step up in this crucial match with the young guns like Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav, who need to replicate the form they showed in the T20I series against England.

MI are getting decent starts in their innings. But none of their batters are converting them into a big score. Rohit Sharma and Quinton De Kock are such impactful openers in the T20 format. But they haven’t found their mojo yet in the tournament. Mumbai Indians need to start winning from this match; otherwise, it will be too late for them to catch up because teams like Rajasthan Royals might get ahead of Mumbai Indians on the points table.

The three losses which MI has faced till now are mainly due to their middle-order batting display. Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav haven’t been good as they are in the middle overs. Surya scored decent runs in the matches so far. But Kishan has not been in good touch. Mumbai Indians will want them to step up in today’s game and regain some form.

Hardik Pandya’s bowling is an issue that cant be sorted out. But his batting, too, has gone silent. Hardik is on the side to take the team through the middle overs. But he is not doing that. Now he has strings of low scores, which might affect his place on the side. Mumbai Indians can replace him with James Neesham, who is an all-rounder from New Zealand.

Anyways MI are playing with just three overseas players, Pollard, De Kock and Boult. If they add Jimmy Neesham as the replacement to Hardik Pandya, that will not harm the team, and it would give MI extra abating and bowling option. I will also not rely on Pollard Poer to give them the finishing kick if Neesham is thee in the side.

Kieron Pollard has also been inconsistent for Mumbai Indians in this tournament so far, and he has failed to provide the finishing kicks to the innings. If Mumbai Indians get Neesham, then that issue might be sorted out for the defending champions.

Krunal Pandya is another one who needs to be replaced by Mumbai Indians. His batting and bowling form hasn’t been good in the five matches played by MI so far. Piyush Chawla might be a good replacement. Chawla has the experience, and he can use the turn and bounce of the wicket in Delhi.

Rajasthan Royals – RR

The Double R’s side is in trouble because of injuries and COVID 19 situation in India. Now they have only four overseas players with them in their squad. But still gave a winning performance against Kolkata Knight Riders, which will lift their spirits to face the defending champions, Mumbai Indians.

In their last game against KKR, their bowlers were the ones who strangled the batsmen of KKR. Morris, Unadkat, Sakariya and Mustafizzur Rahman bowled well to keep the KKR batsmen in check. Now against power-hitting and free stroke-making players of MI, the RR bowlers are expected to do the same. Otherwise, it will be difficult for Rajasthan Royals to cause an upset in this match.

The batting also came good in the last game. Sanju Samson played a mature knock and guided his team home in the run chase. RR needs their skipper to be consistent in the middle order, and many think he should open the innings with Jos Buttler so that the two best players of Rajasthan Royals will get a full 20 overs to bat, and they can anchor the innings well.

Jos Buttler needs to step up as a senior player of the team. He hasn’t been proving starts which is needed by RR. They hope that Buttler will do the job he has been doing for England in the shortest format.

RR need to sneak in Manipal Lomar in the middle order. He can add depth in batting, and he can be a useful bowling option. With David Miller and Chirs Morris controlling the last part of the innings, it would be important to add Lomar, who can control the middle phrase of an innings. But for that, they will have to drop Yashashwi Jaiswal after just one game.

RR can also add Shreyas Gopal, who can be useful on Delhi’s pitch. Rahul Tewatia and Riyan Parag has been good. But the inclusion of Shreyas Gopal, the RR attack will be more lethal.
