Sydney Thunder Bowled Out

On Friday, December 16, Sydney Thunder recorded the lowest score in T20 cricket history. At the Sydney Showground Stadium, the side led by Jason Sangha was made to chase 140 runs before being bowled out for 15 in 5.5 overs.

The lowest T20 total was recorded when Turkey was bowled out for 21 against the Czech Republic in August 2019 in Ilfov County. Additionally, the Thunder had the lowest score in BBL history. At the Docklands Stadium in January 2015, the Melbourne Renegades lost to the Melbourne Stars after being dismissed for 57 runs in 12.4 overs.

Three of the top four Thunders batters were out on a duck. Henry Thornton, a seamer for the Strikers, destroyed the opposition middle order in the Powerplay by taking five wickets in three overs, while Wes Agar claimed four wickets at the other end.

The collapse was started by Matthew Short, who had a wicket in his first and only over. The Thunders were defeated in 5.5 overs, with none of their batters managing to reach double figures.

Third-best numbers in the BBL’s history

Thornton won the player of the match award after finishing with stats of 2.5-1-3-5 with 15 dot balls . It just so happened to be the third-best number in the BBL’s history. While receiving the player of the match award he said, “Have no clue what’s going on, it’s amazing. We thought they bowled really, really well considering what the wicket was doing, but we hung in there long enough. Haven’t seen anything similar to this ever, unbelievable stuff to be honest.”

“We just thought that if we could bowl on top of the stumps, we were clear on what we have to execute. I think we got a lot of nick-offs and Short took one of the best catches at first slip. Really happy for Wes Agar, he bowled really well. Was super disciplined, great performance by him. Pretty unique (bowling with three slips), I just couldn’t believe it. Lynn was like if you want two or three slips, it was quite amazing. To have guys like Lynn next to you, it’s amazing. To be honest I couldn’t believe it. Thought 150 would be good but turned out to be enough,” he added.
