At the ODI match against Bangladesh in Chattogram, Virat Kohli recorded his first century since August 14, 2019. With this performance, Kohli put an end to a three-year wait for a triple-digit score to appear next to his name on an ODI innings sheet.
In the third ODI against India, Bangladesh’s captain Litton Das called for the visitors to bat first after winning the toss. The home team got off to a good start by getting rid of Shikhar Dhawan quickly. After the first five over, India had a score of 17/1.
Virat Kohli took time to relax in the middle. In the seventh over of the innings, he even misjudged a flick and nearly gave Litton Das the opportunity to take a catch. Das was unable to finish the catch, though.
With that missed opportunity, Kohli capitalised and delivered one of his most impressive innings in recent memory. He perfectly rotated the strike to support Ishan Kishan. While Kohli scored 113 runs off 91 balls, Kishan amassed 210 runs.
During their collaboration, Kishan and Kohli each set numerous records. The top three records that Kohli broke are shown below.
Most ODI runs by an Indian against Bangladesh
In games against Bangladesh, Virat Kohli took over as the new holder of the record for the most ODI runs by an Indian. Currently, the right-handed batsman has 807 runs against the neighbours in 15 ODI innings. He scored his fourth ODI century today against Bangladesh.
Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, has previously scored the most runs against Bangladesh in ODI matches. In 15 innings, Sharma has scored 738 runs overall. He had an injury and had to miss this game.
Player with the fastest 44 ODI hundreds
Earlier morning, Virat Kohli reached his 44th ODI century. He is just behind Sachin Tendulkar on the list of all-time players with the most ODI hundreds (49).
While Kohli just achieved the mark in his 256th inning, Sachin reached his 44th ODI century in his 418th inning.
Highest run rate for a 250+ ODI partnership
For the second wicket, Ishan Kishan and Virat Kohli added 290 runs off 31.4 overs. They worked together in Chhatogram and kept up a superb run pace of 9.15.
The Indian pair beat the previous record for the highest run rate in an ODI partnership of more than 250 runs set by Sanath Jayasuriya and Upul Tharanga. In the fifth ODI of the series against England in 2006, the Sri Lankan pair combined for 286 runs off 31.5 overs at an average run rate of 8.98.
