The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 mini-auction is making headlines again. Each year, just before the start of each season, the eagerly anticipated event is held. The tension and excitement brought on by the sound of the hammer can be quite unsettling for players, spectators, and stakeholders.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the most popular and lucrative cricket leagues in the world. Every year, a number of the world’s top players feature in the IPL auction, where teams bid for the services of the best players. Over the years, some of the biggest names in cricket have been signed up by teams, and the IPL auction has seen some of the most expensive overseas players in the world. Here are the four most expensive overseas purchases made in IPL auction history before another exciting round of bidding begins.

He had a promising start to his 2021 IPL season, leading the KKR pace attack to nine wickets in seven games while also scoring an unbeaten 34-ball 66 against Chennai Super Kings in a losing effort. In 14 games, Cummins claimed 12 wickets for a 7.86 economy rate.

Royal Challengers Bangalore broke the bank to secure the bowling all-arounder from New Zealand, finalising the deal for Rs 15 crore during the auction, last year. Jamieson had a mixed performance with the Bangalore-based team, taking 9 wickets in nine games at an average of 29.88 and an economy rate of 9.60. He is again registered for the IPL 2023 auction.

Ben Stokes: Rising Pune Supergiant (Rs 14.5 crore)

Ben Stokes, an all-rounder for England, is one of the players in the auction that are most in demand. He has purchased Rs 14.5 crore at the 2017 auction by the now-defunct team Rising Pune Supergiant. Stokes met his price tag and delivered. With 316 runs in 12 games, he ended the season with the third-best average for the team. His average was 31.60. Strokes got 12 wickets in 12 games at an economy rate of 7.18 while scoring the sole century for RPS this season. It, therefore, came as no surprise when Stokes won the following auction as well, being acquired by Rajasthan Royals for 12.5 crores for the 2018 campaign.
