The 3rd edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) ended on 23rd December 2022 after a pulsating and thrilling final between Jaffna Kings and Colombo Stars. Jaffna Kings continued their brilliance and exemplary form in the LPL as they clinched off their 3rd title. They thereby complete a hat-trick of wins in Sri Lanka’s premier T20 franchise tournament.
Having had its first game on 6th December 2022, the Lanka Premier League 2022 proved to be a very exciting tournament. A total of 20 matches were played in the round-robin stage followed by the playoff matches.
Jaffna Kings finished the round-robin stage in the 2nd position in the points table. They won 6 games and lost only 2 matches. They defeated Kandy Falcons in the Qualifier 1 by 24 runs in a rain-curtailed match in the Lanka Premier League 2022.
Even though the defending champions were given a real scare and shock in the final, they managed to hold their nerves and won the game by 2 wickets. Opening batter of Jaffna Kings Avishka Fernando scored a compact knock of 50 runs in 43 deliveries. Fernando’s knock was packed with 4 fours and 1 six.
Several talented cricketers of Sri Lanka received a golden opportunity to showcase their skills, prowess and mettle in front of the entire world. They also received a stellar opportunity to rub shoulders with some talented overseas cricketers across the globe. We witnessed several amazing individual performances throughout the course of the tournament.
