The inaugural match of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2022–23 between the reigning champion Jaffna Kings and the 2021 runners-up Galle Gladiators took place on December 6, 2022, in Hambantota.

LPL 2022: 3 Pakistani Players To Watch For
Asif Ali
For LPL 2022, Asif Ali will be the only Pakistani player for Colombo Stars. Asif Ali is renowned for his powerful punches and outstanding finishing skills. In his T20 career, he had a 147 strike rate.
Along with his regular appearances for Islamabad United, he has also played for the CPL teams Jamaica and St. Kitts.
Azam Khan
Azam Khan is a powerful hitter who is solely focused on Twenty20 cricket. He has been in excellent form in the CPL and Abu Dhabi T10 tournaments. Imad and Faheem both have excellent bowling skills and have the ability to hit the ball a long way.
He gives the team the much-needed batting advantage and has good spin play, both of which are essential in Sri Lanka’s conditions.
Shahnawaz Dahani
For Jaffna Kings, Shahnawaz Dahani made his LPL debut as a bowler who can produce real pace. Dahani has not been playing well lately, which will be concerning for Jaffna Kings in the LPL 2022, but he has been a consistent player for Karachi Kings in the PSL for the past few seasons.
