Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has picked his contender to lead Team India if Rohit Sharma opts out from any of the formats going ahead in the future. The former off-spinner surprised everyone by picking Jasprit Bumrah as his favorite to lead the Indian side in red-ball cricket.

Jasprit Bumrah is currently one of the best bowlers across all the formats in international cricket. The majority of the batsmen feel uncomfortable facing the Indian pacer in any part of the world. Certainly, he is one of the biggest match-winner that Team India has in their line-up. He is an al-format pacer, who has reaped success with red-ball and white ball over the years.

The star pacer has taken 292 wickets across all the formats for the Indian side and he is still young. In the past, many players have praised Bumrah and compared him with some of the greats bowling greats.

In an interview, Harbhajan Singh opined that it is good that Rohit Sharma is going to lead Team India across all the formats. He added that if there comes a point that will probably going to happen when Rohit will leave the captaincy then he wants Jasprit Bumrah should take the charge. The former spinner mentioned that Kapil Dev, who led India to maiden World Cup trophy in 1983, was also a pacer and he is one of the greats in international cricket

“According to me, Rohit Sharma should be the captain of all three formats. If he is totally fit then he should captain all three formats,” Harbhajan told Sports Tak.

“If Rohit feels that he doesn’t want to captain all three formats. Then in Test cricket, I am on Jasprit Bumrah’s side. He should be given the captaincy because a fast bowler is always thought that they think too big.

“Kapil Dev was also a bowler. Why can’t a bowler be captain? I want to know this”, he further added.

Harbhajan Singh asserted that Bumrah has led India to several wins in the past and he has been doing the same with consistency then why we should not appoint him as Team India’s skipper atleast in Test cricket

“Among match-winners in Team India, Jasprit Bumrah is better than them. How many matches Jasprit Bumrah has won us, probably only one bowler has done that. So Jasprit Bumrah for Test cricket captaincy if Rohit Sharma is not available,” he said.
