The test team from New Zealand Cricket has been announced. The test series against Pakistan is set to begin on December 26. Tim Southee will lead the team for the first time during the Test series against Pakistan after Kane Williamson stepped down from the position earlier on Thursday, December 15.
Glenn Phillips and Ish Sodhi are back in Test cricket. The fast bowler, Southee is in charge of a different-looking team since Kyle Jamieson is still healing from his back ailment and Trent Boult has withdrawn from this tour. New Zealand will soon embark on its first visit to Pakistan since 2003.
While uncapped pacer Blair Tickner is still on the 15-man squad, former captain Kane Williamson will play the role of a batter. In the meantime, Tom Latham has been named Southee’s deputy.

Schedule For New Zealand Tour Of Pakistan 2022-23
Originally scheduled to begin on December 27, the New Zealand tour of Pakistan in 2022–2023 has been moved up by one day thanks to an agreement between the PCB and NZC. The BlackCaps’ tour to Pakistan is now scheduled to begin on December 26.
1st Test – December 26-30 at National Bank Cricket Arena Karachi
2nd Test – January 3-7 at Multan Cricket Stadium
1st ODI – 10 January at National Bank Cricket Arena Karachi
2nd ODI – 12 January at National Bank Cricket Arena Karachi
3rd ODI – 14 January at National Bank Cricket Arena Karachi
First for Tim Southee as Test captain
“It’s going to be a new experience and the kind of challenge that excites this group. We’ve naturally been keeping an eye on the current Test series against England, particularly the last two Tests of the series held in Multan and Karachi, where we will play. This series will be the first for Tim Southee as Test captain and together we’re both looking forward to getting into our work for the tour,” said New Zealand coach Gary Stead as quoted by Cricbuzz.
