Wriddhiman Saha Scores Gritty Fifty Against Australia A In 1st Practice Match

The veteran wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha was once reckoned as the replacement of MS Dhoni after the latter bid adieu to all forms of cricket. But, things have not gone in favor of the Bengal wicketkeeper as he is looked down as the second choice for the selectors giving preference to Rishabh Pant across all the formats and former World Cup-winning cricketer Syed Kirmani is not impressed with the selection committee’s approach.

Wriddhiman Saha made his debut back in 2010 against South Africa. Since then he has played only 40 Tests, & 9 ODIs for Team India. He is known for his acrobatic wicketkeeping skills behind the stumps and he is rated as one of the best in the international circuit by many cricketing legends in the past.

However, earlier, he was used as a reserve wicketkeeper in the presence of MS Dhoni and now he is once again used in the same fashion by the team management giving more opportunities to youngster Rishabh Pant.

Syed Kirmani, the former World Cup-winning cricketer in his recent interview said that Wriddhiman Saha is one of the best wicketkeepers across the country without a doubt. He feels that the Bengal cricketer should get more chances to prove his worth.

Even, the former Indian cricketer motivated Saha stating that he should not get upset as it is part and parcel of the game.

“No doubt, Wriddhi is still the best wicketkeeper. But Rishabh Pant is getting chances for his aggressive batting. Even at 37, Wriddhi is still the best wicketkeeper. He should not get upset. Dinesh Karthik and Parthiv Patel were also replaced in the same fashion,” said the 1983 World Cup winner while speaking to mid-day.

Adding to that he mentioned that Wriddhiman Saha is not part of any group and has been the victim of politics.

“You did a splendid job for India and never bowed down in these years, which is commendable. You are dropped because you did not belong to any particular group, you are a victim of politics. I will remember you as a very fine wicketkeeper”, he added.
