India have kickstarted their Paris Olympics 2024 campaign on a good note as the women’s team have qualified for the quarter-finals after seeding 4th post the 72 shots. Despite the Opening Ceremony of the Paris Olympics 2024 is scheduled for 26th July 2024, the Indian archery team have started their journey from 25th July 2024.
Republic of Korea exercised their dominant muscles and finished with a score of 2046 post the 72 shots. 123 of them were 10’s and 42 were X’s. They are followed by China, Mexico and then India.
Hosts France are in the 5th position with 1972 points under their belt. Germany have occupied the 6th position.
Ankita Bhakat finished in the 11th position for India. Bhajan Kaur and Deepika Kumari finished in the 22nd and 23rd position respectively. As a team, India will be directly playing the quarter finals.
Bhakat had a rank of 8 at one point but she slipped to the 11th position after the completion of the 72 shots.
Notably, this is a historic moment for the Indian archery contingent. This is the first time that all the women’s archers have had a top 25 finish post the first Round in the Olympics. Deepika Kumari didn’t look at her usual best but India would live to see another day.
South Korea had a fantastic sojourn and Lim Sihyeon broke the World Record with the score of 694/720. Kang Chaeyoung held the previous World Record of 692/720.
Indian men’s archers kickstart their campaign from 5:30 PM on 25th July 2024
40-year-old Tarundeep Rai will make his 4th Olympic appearance and all eyes will be on the veteran. He has previously been a part of the Indian archery team in the 2004, 2012 and 2020 Olympics.
Pravin Jadhav will be another player to watch out for and this will be his 2nd appearance. Dhiraj Bommadevara is the other male athlete from India and has a rank of 15 in the World.
