Fernando Alonso’s F1 racing career         

Minardi: Alonso started his career with Minardi in 2001. He stayed with the team for 1 season before moving on to Renault in the next year. With Minardi, Alonso made his debut in the 2001 Australian Open.  He finished in the 23rd position with 0 points.

Renault: The Spaniard spent the next 5 years of his career with Renault. In 2002 he was just a test driver and did not get to race. In 2003, he finished 6th in the standing and improved himself in 2004 by finishing 4th.

After this, Fernando Alonso became an unstoppable force winning both the 2005 and 2006 Formula One Drivers’ Championship. In 2005, Alonso had 7 wins and 133 points. And in 2006, the Spaniard had 134 points to seal the title. Overall Fernando Alonso won 15 races before leaving after 2006.

He finished 17th, 10th, 15th, and 11th in his 4 years with the team. In 2018 he announced that he would be leaving F1 after the end of the season. He did remain as an ambassador for one more year but didn’t take to the driver’s seat.

Alpine: In 2021, Fernando Alonso made a surprise return to F1 with Alpine.  He did not win a race but managed to finish 3rd in the Russian GP. He finished the season with 81 points and was placed 10th in the drivers’ rankings.
