The Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 has culminated and Mumbai City FC have been crowned champions for their terrific performance in the finals. Mumbai City FC outclassed defending champions Mohun Bagan Super Giants 3-1 to win the title at the iconic and prestigious Salt Lake Stadium on 4th May 2024.
Mumbai City FC had defeated FC Goa in the semi-finals and had sealed a place in the finals. They avenged their League Shield defeat and won the title, adding to their already-glittering trophy cabinet.
Mohun Bagan Super Giants did try their level best but failed to secure a win on D-Day. Jason Cummins had opened the goal-scoring account for the Mariners but ultimately it was resilience that stood out for the Islanders.
In the second half, they came back with a bang and ran riot over the Mariners. The entire jam-packed Salt Lake Stadium was silenced and it was the Islanders who ruled the roost at the Mecca of Indian Football.
Goals from Jorge Pereyra Diaz, Bipin Singh and Jakub Vojtus ensured that Mumbai City FC win the game. They stamped their authority right throughout the game and eventually had the last laugh in front of a packed and electrifying stadium.
There were plenty of awards which were given at the end of the match and it was given in front of a mostly-empty stadium. Most of the fans had left for their homes, wearing a dejected and disappointed look on their faces.
After winning the ISL League Shield this season, defending champions Mohun Bagan Super Giants were confident of winning the title as well.
