England Cricket Board reveals playing conditions and rules for The Hundred, Full Squad Details

Date:

England Cricket Board is busy with the preparations of the maiden season of “The Hundred” tournament. The new format based league is set to begin from July 21 with the opening game set to be played between
Oval Invincibles and Manchester Originals at Kennington Oval in London. And, ECB has come up with the playing conditions that need to be followed through the edition with some interesting modifications.

The Hundred was set to witness its maiden season in the year 2020. But, due to the global pandemic ECB was forced to postpone the tournament by a year. In the ongoing year things look well settled and England Cricket Board feels this is the right time to organize the 100-ball tournament.

ECB Comes Up With Rules And Playing Conditions For The Hundred

ECB has removed overs with balls in the maiden season of The Hundred tournament. A bowler can bowl five deliveries. But, the interesting introduction is that he can bowl back-to-back five deliveries from the same bowling end. Like this, there are several new innovations introduced by ECB in their rule book.

Playing conditions:

  • Overs are shifted to ‘balls’
  • Umpires will call ‘five’ at the end of a bowler’s set of balls. A white card will be held up by the umpire after the set of five
  • Two sets of ‘five’ will be bowled from one end and even with the same bowler if needed
  • First 25 balls of the innings will be a powerplay
  • Fielding team can opt to take a two-minute strategic time-out after the initial 25 balls.
  • Both teams will earn a point each in group stage’s tied matches. But in the eliminator and final, they will go to a ‘super five’
  • Second super five will be played if the first super five is tied. If the second one is tied, the team that finished at a better place in group stage will win the contest

Along with the Mens edition, women will also play their segment of The Hundred. Many big and known players are set to take the field in the exciting and much-awaited tournament including Chris Lynn, Carlos Brathwaite, Colin Munro, Imran Tahir, and Devon Conway.

Indian Women cricketers will also feature in the maiden season of the tournament. It will help Indian cricketers in gaining much-needed experience in unfriendly playing conditions. Deepti Sharma, Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Harmanpreet Kaur are among the players from India to play in The Hundred for their respective teams.
