Sergio Perez’s Formula One Career
Sergio Perez built his early career by participating in Formula BMW, A1 Grand Prix, GP2 series, and other racing events all around the world.
Sauber: Perez got his big break in the Formula One circuit with the Sauber team. He joined the team in the 2011 season and stayed for a couple of years.
Sergio Perez had a good 2012 season, he finished the season in tenth place in the Drivers’ Championship with 66 points, 6 more than teammate Kobayashi.
McLaren: Perez would join McLaren Mercedes for the 2013 season. He replaced Lewis Hamilton in the team. Pérez confirmed on 13 November 2013 that he would be leaving McLaren at the end of the season.
Force India: Perez joined the Sahara Force India team in 2014 and stayed there for four seasons. His best came in the 2017 season as he finished 7th in the overall standings.
The Mexican had another good season and ended the 2018 season in 8th place in the championship with 62 points. He finished ahead of teammate Ocon and was the only non-Mercedes, Ferrari or Red Bull driver to finish on the podium that season.
Racing Point: The 2019 season saw Force India become Racing Point, retaining Pérez as a driver. He was joined at the team by former Williams driver Lance Stroll. Perez finished the 2019 season in 10th place in the championship with 52 points, comfortably ahead of teammate Stroll.
In 2020, Pérez won his first race at the Sakhir Grand Prix, becoming Formula 1’s 110th race winner.
Red Bull Racing: Pérez joined Red Bull Racing in 2021, replacing Alex Albon. At Red Bull, he partnered with Max Verstappen.

Hawkers Controversy: Sergio Perez said dumped his sunglasses sponsor for a comment it made on Twitter about his Mexican compatriots after Donald Trump was elected as the president of the United States.
Hawkers had tweeted the following “Mexicans, put on these sunglasses so your swollen eyes can’t be seen during tomorrow’s building of the wall.”
