Mohammad Rizwan used prohibited medicine during T20 World Cup

Mohammad Rizwan’s rise as a batsman for Pakistan in white-ball cricket is no less than a blessing. He was simply on fire during the T20 World Cup 2021 and played a key role in taking his side into the semi-finals of the mega-event. But, now it has been revealed that the right-handed batsman took prohibited substance ahead of the semi-final against Australia.

Mohammad Rizwan was all in the limelight during the mega-event. He played a beautiful knock of 79 runs against India in the group stage. He also partnered with his skipper to guide Pakistan to a clean 10-wicket win over the arch-rivals. Rizwan managed a total of 289 runs with the bat in T20 World Cup 2021 and finished as the second leading run-scorer from Pakistan.

The Men in Green nation reached the semi-finals in style and faced Australia. But, they lost to the latter by 5 wickets. Now, Dr. Soomro in an interview with the star wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan shed light on an instance that is not known to many outside Pakistan Cricke.

The known doctor said while taking the interview that he had to take permission from the ICC in order to use the prohibited medicine as he had no option left with him during the mega-event. As per him, Rizwan wasn’t able to breathe easily ahead of the semi-final against Australia. He added that although that medicine is banned for the athletes. But, ICC permitted at that time to avoid any mishappening.

“You were unable to breathe and I have to get permission from the ICC to inject that medicine to help you recover. Usually, it is prohibited for the athletes but since there was no other option available, we have to take permission from the ICC to inject that medicine,” Dr Soomro said while conducting an interview with Rizwan.

Mohammad Rizwan has become a regular face of the Pakistan cricket team in past year or so. He has donned the national jersey in 56 T20Is and scored 1662 runs with the bat at an average of 50.16.
