Watch: Wanindu Hasaranga Bags Hat-trick In Lanka Premier League

Date:

Wanindu Hasaranga scripted history in the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2022 as he became the first person to take a hat-trick in the tournament. Hasaranga bagged the milestone against Colombo Stars and powered his side Kandy Falcons to a massive victory in the LPL 2022.

Hasaranga, who is also the skipper of Kandy Falcons, finished with figures of 4/14 and broke the back of Colombo Star’s batting department. Wanindu Hasaranga conceded only 14 runs in 3 overs with an outstanding economy of 4.7.

Colombo Stars was chasing an imposing target set by Kandy Falcons. The target was 200 and the batters never really got going in the run-chase. Wanindu Hasanranga wreaked havoc in the 6th over when he took the wickets of Dinesh Chandimal, Benny Howell, and Seekkuge Prasanna. This essentially pushed the Stars out of the game as the Falcons were right in the driving seat of the game.

Hasaranga thus becomes the first person to take a hat-trick in the Lanka Premier League. This is the 3rd edition of the premier franchise tournament of Sri Lanka and Wanindu Hasaranga is the highest wicket-taker in the history of the tournament.

Wanindu Hasaranga was quite happy with his performance

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Wanindu Hasaranga was happy with his hat trick and said ‘experience’ played a key role in him achieving this feat.

“Credit to our batters. My second T20 hat trick. I am really happy. That’s what experience does. First two wickets I tried to bowl at the sticks and decided to bowl the googly. I am trying to take more responsibility as a captain. I always try to do my best whether I am a captain or not,” said Hasaranga.

Opener and wicket-keeper batter Andre Fletcher launched a barrage of attacks on the Colombo Stars’ bowlers during his fiery innings of 102*(67). His innings were packed with 11 fours and 3 sixes. Fletcher had a superb strike rate of 152.24.
