Delhi Capitals are another Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise that has bought a team in the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL).
The franchise has named Meg Lanning as their skipper for this year and she recently guided Australia to their 6th ICC Women’s World T20 trophy. Jemimah Rodrigues has been named as the vice-captain of Delhi Capitals.
With the likes of Shafali Verma, Marizanne Kapp, Radha Yadav and Taniya Bhatia in their side, Delhi Capitals look like an extremely potent and formidable side in the WPL 2023 and are one of the frontrunners to lift the title.
In this article, we plot a SWOT analysis of the Delhi Capitals team in the upcoming WPL 2023:
Strength
The batting department of Delhi Capitals is undoubtedly their strength. Young and swashbuckling batter Shafali Verma will be at the core of the batting plans of Delhi and she will be complemented by the presence of Meg Lanning and Jemimah Rodrigues.
Delhi also have the likes of Marizanne Kapp and Jasia Akhter and their batting is one of their key strengths as they head into WPL. We can expect the Delhi franchise to churn out some big scores and play some good cricket. Shafali Verma can most certainly power Delhi to some solid starts in the powerplay.
Weakness
Lack of experience in the bowling department is one of the concerns in the Delhi Capitals team. The presence of Marizanne Kapp is the only positive in the bowling department.
If Delhi have to defend a big total, then it would be tough to rely on the other experienced bowlers.
Opportunities
Titas Sadhu will receive a golden opportunity to prove her mettle and showcase her skill in the WPL 2023. She was a part of the World Cup-winning squad of India in the recently-concluded ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023.
Threat
The pace bowling department can be an area of concern and the stringent schedule can wear out a few bowlers. WPL can be a challenging tournament and the pacers adapting to the rigors of the tournament can be a tough challenge.
