On Sunday, March 19, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) picked Sisanda Magala of South Africa as a replacement for New Zealand speedster Kyle Jamieson, who is still recovering from a chronic back injury. Magala, who has only participated in four T20 International matches for the Proteas, will sign on with the four-time IPL champions for INR 50 lakhs.
The Dhoni-led franchise, CSK paid INR 1 crore to acquire Jamieson. The bowler was selected for the two-match Test series against England by New Zealand but was forced to withdraw due to injury.
“Jamieson, who was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury, was bought by the franchise for INR 1 Crore. His replacement, Magala, has rich experience in the shortest format of the game. Though he has played just 4 T20Is for South Africa, Magala has a reputation for being a regular wicket-taker in domestic T20 games over the years. He will join CSK at his base price of INR 50 Lakh,” IPL said in a statement.
Magala was a member of the Sunrisers Eastern Cape team that won the SA20 league under the leadership of Aiden Markram. Throughout the tournament, the 32-year-old took 14 wickets from 12 games, with an economy rate of 8.68. Magala is also performing well in the recently concluded South Africa bilateral series.
