IPL 2023: Prerak Mankad And Nicholas Pooran Lead Lucknow Super Giants To Thrilling Victory Over Sunrisers Hyderabad

Date:

In an enthralling encounter at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants secured a crucial victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 58th match of IPL 2023. Lucknow Super Giants secured an important victory after two losses and no result.

Having won the toss and elected to bat first, Sunrisers Hyderabad got off to a good start, but lost their way after the Powerplay, losing wickets at crucial junctures.

Anmolpreet Singh and Aiden Markram added 26 runs off 19 balls before the latter was dismissed by Amit Mishra for 23 off 16 balls. From there on, Lucknow kept taking wickets at regular intervals to restrict SRH to a manageable total.

Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a challenging total of 182/6, thanks to valuable contributions from Heinrich Klassen (47 off 29), Abdul Samad (37 off 25), and Anmolpreet Singh (36 off 27).

In reply, Lucknow Super Giants were struggling at 68/2 midway through their innings before Prerak Mankad’s unbeaten 64* off 45, coupled with explosive cameos from Marcus Stoinis (40 off 25) and Nicholas Pooran (44* off13), saw them win by seven wickets with one ball to spare.

Lucknow Super Giants were put under early pressure by the SRH bowlers, losing Kyle Mayers for just 2 runs from 13 balls. Despite Quinton de Kock’s 29-ball 29, Lucknow was struggling to keep up with the required rate.

However, Mankad and Stoinis had different ideas as they took on the SRH bowlers, hitting them to all parts of the ground to bring Lucknow back into the game. The duo added 71 runs off just 32 balls to take the game away from the home side.

Despite Stoinis’ dismissal, Pooran came out all guns blazing, hitting three sixes in a row off Abhishek Sharma in the 16th over to take the game away from SRH.

With four runs needed off the final over, Pooran held his nerve to hit the winning boundary off the last ball, sending the Lucknow Super Giants dugout into a frenzy.

With this win, Lucknow Super Giants move into the top four of the IPL 2023 points table, while Sunrisers Hyderabad slip to ninth place, with just four wins from eleven matches.
