Tottenham Hotspur have announced Ange Postecoglou as their new Head Coach. The 57-year-old football manager has a lot of expertise under his belt and recently powered Celtic to two successive Scottish Premiership titles under his reign over there for 2 years.
Postecoglou will become the 1st Australian coach to coach in the Premier League and this is a landmark moment for the football league of England. He will be joining Tottenham Hotspur from 1st July 2023.
“Ange brings a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play. He has a strong track record of developing players and an understanding of the importance of the link from the academy — everything that is important to our club. We are excited to have Ange join us as we prepare for the season ahead,” said Tottenham Hotspur Chairman Daniel Levy in a statement.
Antonio Conte was sacked towards the end of March
Antonio Conte was sacked towards the end of March after he ranted at Daniel Levy and made comments on Tottenham’s trophy-record. The assistant coach of Tottenham, Cristian Stellini was named as the acting Head Coach of the Spurs for the remainder of the season.
Tottenham finished 8th in the Premier League
The Spurs endured a torrid season as they finished in the 8th position in the Premier League. In 38 games, they could only muster 18 wins and had racked up 60 points. Before winning their last Premier League game against Leeds United 4-1, Tottenham had lost two back-to-back matches in the Premier League against Aston Villa and Brentford.
Ange Postecoglou is a very accomplished coach
During his tenure at Celtic, Ange Postecoglou won 5 out of the 6 trophies that were there. He was respected and revered by everyone and managed to win the Scottish Premiership twice in 2 editions too.
“It has been a pleasure working with Ange, a great football manager and a good man. He has served the club with such energy and determination and delivered a phenomenal level of success,” said Michael Nicholson, who is the Chief Executive of Celtic.
The 57-year-old has previously managed the Australian national football team, Melbourne Victory, Brisbane Roar, South Melbourne among a host of other clubs.
He was a footballer himself and represented the Ozzies in 4 international games. He has played 193 matches for South Melbourne and has netted 27 goals for the club.
Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping to have a good season under their new Head Coach.
