WI vs IND: Ravichandran Ashwin Creates Massive Record In 1st Test After Claiming 12 Wickets

Date:

India wrapped up West Indies’ 2nd innings in quick time as Ravichandran Ashwin ran riot with the red-ball. West Indies folded for a paltry 130 and gifted India a win in the 1st Test match of this 2-match Test series.

Ravichandran Ashwin was sparkling with rhythm and rhyme as he bagged 12 wickets in the game. In the 2nd innings, the off-spinner bagged 7 wickets and was the architect behind India’s dominant victory, which highlighted the gulf between the two sides.

India didn’t have to bat in the 2nd innings as West Indies were a no match in front of the dominant Indian juggernaut.

Ashwin has shattered a massive record in this process. He has crossed former legendary off-spinner Harbhajan Singh to become India’s 2nd highest wicket-taker in international cricket.

Ravichandran Ashwin has 709 wickets in 271 international matches and this comes with an average of 25.67. In Tests, he has 486 wickets in his kitty.

With combined figures of 12/131, Ashwin logged his 8th ten-wicket haul in Tests. It is the joint most by an Indian bowler and the other Indian bowler is former Indian legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble.

Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed his maiden century in his maiden Test match

The youngster who made his international debut in this game, was the cynosure of all eyes. Yashasvi Jaiswal deservedly bagged the player of the match award for scoring 171 runs in 387 runs.

On a pitch that was quite slow and kept deteriorating, Jaiswal played a cautious brand of cricket and didn’t take any undue risk.

His innings was peppered with 16 fours and 1 six and he displayed true character and skill at the highest level.

India lock horns with West Indies again on 20th July 2023

The hosts will be aiming to exorcize the ghosts of the 1st Test and put behind the disappointment. The 2nd Test will commence from 20th July 2023 and will be taking place at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

A win for India would mean that they whitewash the hosts. On the other hand, Kraigg Brathwaite and co. would be itching to level the series and gain some confidence before the ODI series commences.
