Riot Games has recently made a number of changes to League of Legends. The publisher is taking decisive action to address player conduct problems and MOBA toxicity.

If you frequently play League of Legends, you would be aware that players may be toxic to one another without using actual words to do so.

Since it was added to the game, the bait ping has evolved into a spam emoticon, much as how the ‘enemy missing’ or the question mark ping is used to call attention to a player’s errors.

Riot Games has finally realized that the bait ping is being abused by the players to spam ping and be toxic towards each other in the game and will be totally eliminating it very soon, nearly a full year after it was first introduced.

Bait Pings to be removed from League of Legends

Players were exposed to jungle pets, the updated Chemtech drake, and a thorough communication system through the new communication wheel, popularly known as the ping wheel, during the 2023 League of Legends Preseason.

New pings were introduced in addition to the existing pings of aid, opponent missing, on my way, and danger to enhance gameplay.

League of Legends gamers, however, have been utilizing one of the bait pings to be very toxic to their teammates while playing.

The bait ping seems to be a fishing hook, but several gamers immediately noticed that it somewhat resembled a rope.

Shortly after its debut, the ping’s aesthetic appearance was altered such that it now resembles a bait hook rather than a rope.

Riot Games has taken notice of other spam pings in addition to this one. Additionally, it will modify several of the game’s pinging features to improve communication and reduce abuse.

Lead Producer Chris “Auberaun” Roberts tweeted on September 20:

“In 13.19 we’ll be making scoreboard pings for allies visible only to yourself so pinging things like “Kha’zix – Alive” 6x can no longer be used to harass teammates. We’re maintaining the allied ping functionality so that you can still see exact allied ult & item cooldowns.”

“Also, the way the bait ping is commonly being used today is unacceptable and we will be removing and replacing it the near future,” he added.

In the League of Legends Patch 13.19, other systems than pings also see modifications.

On September 19th, Riot Games announced that, beginning with the forthcoming patch, there would be a new punishment for violators in ranked games.
