IND vs AUS: 3 Talking Points Of 1st T20I

Date:

India started off their ICC T20 World Cup 2024 campaign on a high after a solid 2-wicket victory over Australia. It was redemption time for the Men in Blue after their heart-breaking 6-wicket loss against the same opposition in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.

Despite having a young team, India played exceptionally well and chased down the humongous total which was put up by Australia. Surya Kumar Yadav started off his captaincy career on the right note as he sunk the Australian ship at Visakhapatnam.

Even though these are early days, but India will have a lot of positives to take out before the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which will be taking place in West Indies and USA.

In this article, we take a look at the top 3 talking points of the 1st IND vs AUS T20I, which took place in Visakhapatnam:

1. Surya Kumar Yadav’s flawless knock

Coming on the back of a poor ICC ODI World Cup 2023 campaign with the bat, Surya Kumar Yadav had a lot of things to prove. He played an explosive knock of 80 runs in just 42 deliveries.

Yadav came into bat at a tricky situation when India were struggling at 22-2. He then activated his beast mode and smeared the Ozzie bowlers all across the park. His knock was packed with 9 fours and 4 sixes.

2. Josh Inglis’s maiden century went in vain

Josh Inglis played exceptionally well in the 1st innings in Visakhapatnam and scored 110 runs in just 50 deliveries. Inglis’s knock was peppered with 11 fours and 8 sixes and he played with a blistering strike-rate of 220.

He scored the joint-fastest century for Australia in the T20 format and put up quite a dominating performance at Visakhapatnam. Inglis’s knock would be a huge positive for Australia and they would be hoping that he performs well in the remainder of this 5-match series as well.

3. Ishan Kishan’s solid knock in the middle

After 2 wickets had fallen, it was on Ishan Kishan and Surya Kumar Yadav to steady the ship for India. While the skipper scored a fabulous knock of 80 runs, southpaw Kishan scored 58 runs in 39 balls.

He forged a 112-run partnership with Surya Kumar Yadav and this was the sole reason why India could chase down the intimidating total of 209 runs. Notably, this was India’s highest successful run-chase in this format.
