Chelsea Defender Reece James Out For A Month After Knee Injury

Date:

All is not well for the 23-year-old Chelsea defender Reece James. After being side-lined from the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar for a knee injury, James is now out for another month because of the same injury. Reece James took the field for Chelsea in their Premier League game against Bournemouth on Tuesday.

Around the 53rd minute at Stamford Bridge, Reece James was seen limping with his knee and had to leave the field, wearing a knee brace. The English defender was immediately substituted and he underwent a few scans.

Now, Chelsea FC has confirmed that Reece James will be side-lined for one more month for proper rehabilitation.

“Defender Reece James underwent assessment earlier today after being substituted during the second half of last night’s 2-0 Premier League victory over AFC Bournemouth due to a knee injury. Scan results have regrettably confirmed a setback for the 23-year-old, with Reece now set to be ruled out for up to a month,” read a statement from the club.

Chelsea FC won the game against Bournemouth 2-0. Kai Havertz and Mason Mount netted the goals for the Blues. Graham Potter’s men are now in the 8th position in the Premier League points table, with 24 points under their belt. They are tied on points with 7th-placed Brighton and are just behind them on Goal Difference.

Reece James said that 2022 has been the “toughest year” for him

Reece James took to the micro-blogging platform Twitter to share an update on his thoughts regarding the injury.

“2022 has been the toughest year to date. Just wanna thank you all for the support, none of you go unnoticed. It’s naturally affected me mentally, I’m currently just tryna deal with the cards I’ve been dealt. I hope your end of the year is filled with peace, joy & happiness,” read Reece James’s tweet.

Reece James first suffered the knee injury during a Champions League game of Chelsea against AC Milan in October. He was advised to rest for 8 weeks in order to get fully fit ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar but England manager Gareth Southgate decided not to rush his recovery.

The 23-year-old right-back has plied his trade for Chelsea FC in 90 matches and has netted 7 goals for them. He also played 45 games for Wigan Athletic while being on loan from 2018 to 2019.
