India and Sri Lanka will face off in the limited over series starting from tomorrow. This started should have been started on 13th July 2021, but due to the COVID 19 cases in the Sri Lankan camp. The series was postponed, and it will begin on 18th July 2021 at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

The Indian team, which will be touring Sri Lanka this time around, is a completely new outfit. This team is captained by a new captain, Shikhar Dhawan, and the team will be trained under a new coach, Rahul Dravid. Aruna Ranataunga had called his team as a second-string side a few months back. But it is not. This team has a talented bunch of younger players who have great match awareness because of IPL.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, are struggling with their form. The hosts visited England for a limited-over series. But they couldn’t win a single match on that tour, and they have concerns because many players have backed off from this series because of contract issues. Sri Lanka has been still in the transition phase after many match-winning legends retired from their cricketing duties, and the talented youngsters haven’t stepped up their performances. It would be interesting to see how the team of this island nation performs against this so-called second-string Indian side.

India – IND

For Team India, this is the first time two teams of the same nation are playing two different series. The Indian team, which is in England for the five-match Test series, is being captained by a regular captain, Virat Kohli, and they have a regular coach, Ravi Shastri, with regular support staff.

But the team landed in the island nation, Sri Lanka is a completely different group, and many of them haven’t even played games for the country. But they have a strong foundation and match awareness skills which can upset an out of form Sri Lankan side. This team is led by Shikhar Dhawan, who has an excellent record against Sri Lanka, and many young players could make their debut under the coaching stint of Indian legend Rahul Dravid. This opportunity of working under Rahul Dravid would be wonderful as these future stars of Team India will be trained excellently to represent the country.

Alongside Dhawan, Hardik Pandya is also the member to watch out for on this tour, and KULCHA, who have a great record in the middle overs against SRI Lanka, might get a full go in the absence of Jadeja, Sundar, and Axar Patel. The team can also look at Shaw, Samson, Krunal, Manish Pandey, Nitish Rana, Suryakumar Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Ishan Kishan will be tried and tested in the upcoming six games of this tour.

The hosts are expected to raise their bar in the upcoming series against India’s young brigade. Sri Lanka had a poor show against England in all the six limited-overs matches they played on that tour. The batters should show more responsibility in the 50 overs and T20I series in normal home conditions starting from Sunday. Sri Lanka had faced a clean sweep in both the recent series against England, which might have hampered their confidence.

Then their players backing off the series due to the contract issues was another headache to deal with. Ahead of this series and three Lankans players were also banned from all the cricket activities because they didn’t follow the Corona Virus protocols on the England Tour. This would also affect them largely in this series. Dasun Shanka, the all-rounder, is the skipper of this series. He needs to be a proactive captain and lead his side well. Shanaka, Chammera, and Hasaranga will be the key players for the hosts in this series.
